Marquard & Bahls Successful Again in 2016

27.06.2017 - Hamburg:

The Marquard & Bahls Group looks back on a good year: in fiscal year 2016, it expanded its core businesses of trading, tank storage logistics and aviation fuelling, and further strengthened its organizational structure. At year-end, Group revenues (including energy taxes) amounted to around 11.5 billion euros. The company, which has more than 8,000 employees in 36 countries worldwide, is thus continuing its successful course.

There was a lot of movement in the oil markets in 2016. The year was initially characterized by very low oil prices which then trended slightly upward over the course of the year. Marquard & Bahls achieved a good result in this volatile environment, mainly driven by its core businesses.

Trading – Mabanaft continues positive trend

The Mabanaft group ended the year with a good operational result in an intensively competitive market. In addition to the trading activities in Germany, Hungary and the United Kingdom, the retail business of Petronord and OIL! Tankstellen did particularly well. Bomin once again had a difficult year in the face of fierce competition and low margins. With the goal of becoming even more customer-oriented in future and simultaneously more efficient, Bomin decided to focus on four hubs in Hamburg, Houston, Singapore and Dubai, which was implemented at the turn of the year. At the end of 2016, Mabanaft group’s sales volume totaled 24.8 million tons of petroleum products and biofuels – up 17 percent year-on-year.

Tank Storage Logistics - Oiltanking expands worldwide

Oiltanking achieved an excellent result, with almost all regions contributing, especially Asia, Europe and Latin America. The Karimun tank terminal in Indonesia was successfully put into operation, as was the Açu Port transshipment terminal in Brazil. The company also made numerous acquisitions, including the Antwerp Gas Terminal (AGT) in Belgium and the acquisition of industrial building land in Texas City in the U.S., which will be used to expand the neighboring Oiltanking tank terminal. In addition, the shareholding in Oiltanking Odfjell Terminals Oman was increased. IOT’s EPC (Engineering Procurement Construction) business in India performed significantly better than last year and ended the year with a positive result after restructuring. At the end of 2016, the Oiltanking network comprised 81 tank terminals in 23 countries, with a total capacity of 21 million cbm.

Aviation Fuelling - Skytanking result improves again

Skytanking recorded a good result above the previous year. Europe, Asia, and Africa all saw higher throughputs of jet fuel. Major developments included the expansion of the network in India and the founding of a joint venture for the supply of aircraft-fuelling personnel in Turkey. At the end of 2016, Skytanking was thus represented at 68 airports in twelve countries, and had recorded total throughput of 15.8 million cbm of jet fuel.

Outlook

Marquard & Bahls is striving for continued international growth so that it can remain on its successful path. The focus is on expanding operations, especially in the core businesses of trading, tank storage logistics and aviation fuelling. With this objective in mind, the organizational structure will be strengthened further, in order to profit from synergies leveraged within the Group.
